Have You Met Painter, Lisa Paskel Rees?, 2/26/20

Q: How long have you been painting?

A: Since August, 2019.

Q: What inspired you to get into the arts?

A: I nearly drowned while surfing in Indonesia and it triggered a deep desire to paint just shortly after the experience.

Q: What are your favorite materials to work with?

A: Wood, paint, anything not nailed down.

Q: Do you have a message in your work?

A: Every piece I make has symbolic referneces to Soul, Self, Life. Every piece is about finding one’s way to truth and ultimate Enlightenment. Through joy, pain, light, dark, mind, no mind – all leading to the unfolding of duality that we all face being here in this human experience as spiritual beings. My work is meant to propose the questions – Who am I? Why am I here?

Q: What is the philosophy behind your work?

A: This experience of painting is a dance that brings me to the deepest sense of my being. My current body of work is a deliberate expression of the duality that we face int he experience of existing in the modern world, and the tranquility of us humans in our Soul connection. My pieces pose the question, “Why am I here?” This human experience in energy. Living energy on the wood, on the canvas, on the paper. I am influenced by the elements of Earth and Universe and the complexities of Nature. As I continue to grow as an artist and Human being I am certain so too will my philosophy shift. But then, isn’t artist same as human being!
