Shingo Francis was raised in both Los Angeles and Tokyo, and currently works in Culver City, CA. Francis works in painting, drawing and large drawing installations utilizing oil, acrylic and watercolor paints. Francis’ recent work uses line, space and color as a means to explore boundaries and their psychological, cultural and social relationships. He was awarded the Fumio Nanjo Award(director of Mori Museum, Tokyo) in 2003. In 2008 Francis was selected as a Solo for ARCO08 in Madrid, Spain. Residencies include Art Omi, NY, Montalvo Arts Center, CA, and LMCC, Governors Island Swing Space in 2010. Recent group exhibitions are Elements of Nature at the Contemporary Art Center in New Orleans, and the Kawamura Memorial Museum of Art in Japan in 2012.
