Carlo Marcucci (paintings)
The Los Angeles based sculptor and painter Carlo Marcucci is a graduate of the Atlanta College of Art has, and known for his two “Wheatfields” and “Chemical Still-Life” series of works. As a sculptor and painter, Marcucci displays an obsessive attention to detail and craftsmanship. “Wheatfields” is a series of wall-mounted sculptures made of polished spaghetti strands applied one by one upon wood structures. These geometric works represent an abstract interpretation of food containers and the way we process and transform food.
“Chemical Still-Life” is an older series of paintings portraying food contamination. They feature images of produce paired with the chemical structures of the contaminants found within each subject portrayed. These images deal with food production in an industrial society and the price we all pay as consumers for our attraction to off-season and blemish free produce.
